Spanish Rhyming Words

I love coming up with Spanish learning opportunities for my son, and his Spanish playgroup. They meet at least every other Monday. Therefore, to get them excited, and looking forward to meeting up I usually have games, crafts, or a learning session for all of them.  Today's lesson was on Spanish rhyming words.

To kickoff the playgroup I read the book Cinco Monitos, and we all sang the Cinco Monitos by Hap Palmer. Although, this has nothing to do with rhyming it does have a lot of repetition ideal for learning new Spanish vocabulary.  Plus, they love jumping and falling down! Ah, the giggles, and laughter!

This book is perfect for our Spanish rhyming lesson. It has a lot of rhyming words, and colorful pages.   Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of the e-packet "Spanish Rhyming Words Las Rimas for Dual Language" for the purpose of reviewing it. I did not receive monetary compensation for this review. All opinions are my own.

Following the book we used the Spanish Rhyming Words "Las Rimas" for Dual Language packet from Open Wide World. This packet includes three cut & paste worksheets, a twelve-page mini-book, twenty four flashcards, and our favorite a 3-in-a-row Bingo game.

To get the kids familiar with the words I printed out the flash cards available in the packet. For example, I would ask them as I showed them the flashcard, "León rima con...." and they would respond, "ratón." They would take turns responding, and then we played lotería de rima.

I quickly picked up that my child is quite advance in comparison to his native Spanish speaker friend when it comes to identifying words in Spanish so I left the mini-book out of the session to do at a later date.

After our session the boys had time for free outdoor play. They ran, and played ball to their heart's content. Although, I heard a few words here and there in English, I constantly found myself saying, "En Español, por favor."

¡Hasta la próxima!
