If you Were Me and Lived in.... A Child's Introduction to Culture Around the World

I am so extremely excited to review for the third consecutive year a multicultural book for Multicultural Children's Book Day!

This year, I've had the opportunity to review, and read with my son three books of author, Carole P. Roman's  If you were me and live in... series.   These lovely books will take your child around the world, and into the lives of children who live in these countries.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Spanish Children's Book

I seriously squeal at the sight of Spanish children's book! I was excited when I received this book from my sister in New York. Celebra El Dia De Mlk Jr. Con La Clase De La Sra. Park / Celebrate Mlk Jr's Day With Mrs. Park's Class (Cuentos Para Celebrar) (Spanish Edition) (affiliate link)

It's from Alma Flor Ada's Celebrate Series. In this book the student's discuss his famous phrase, "I have a dream..." and how Dr. King wanted equality for all. After a visit to the garden Mrs. Parks students come up with an original idea on how celebrate it.

This is an easy to read book for Spanish language learners.  In this same book the author has a section on who was Martin Luther King, Jr., his life, and his legacy.

This is a another great book for children to read in Spanish, and learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. an American Baptist minister, activist, humanitarian, and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement.

Looking for ways to remember Martin Luther King, Jr.?   Read my post on Multicultural Kid Blogs, and check out their series too.

Libros Libres (Free Books) Puerto Rico

I first heard of Libros Libres (Free Books) in Puerto Rico via a friend's Facebook feed.  The concept is similar to Little Free Library but it wasn't just a small looking type mail box. It was a wall with milk crates fixated onto them full of books, tons of them!
Libros Libres  started in June of 2015.  Their main goal was to revive communities that were abandoned, so  neighbors can walk freely, trusting the streets that were once abandoned to be able to exchange conversations, and share one thing in common a love for literacy and books.

Online Resources for Raising Bilingual Kids

When I started our bilingual journey I was just a momma with a desire to have her son learn Spanish! I didn't know where to start, and truth be told I was very lost.

How, when, where and what to start our bilingual journey? I was clueless! I had so many questions!

When raising a bilingual kid you need to maximize all of the opportunities available. If you're lucky you can find a full-immersion program. However, that was not our case.  I would have been thrilled, and ecstatic if I had known about   Language4kidz.com. Created by Graciela Castellanos it provides early language learning programs for babies (yes babies!) through elementary age children. Seriously, do you know  how easy it would have been for me to have used Language4kidz 5 years ago?
Disclosure: I received a electronic copies of children's book, and an audio for the purpose of reviewing it.  I did not receive monetary compensation for this review. All opinions are my own.
As a momma raising a bilingual and biliterate child I look forward to the opportunity to review materials that will enhance my child's bilingual journey.   I was provided with a sample of  an audio song: "Un millon de amigos" and electronic copies of their children's book by Graciela Castellanos, Author, and Founder of Languages4kidz, Inc.
  • Pets All Over the Place Illustrated by Cristina Gil Segovia
  • Osi Hace Nuevos Amigos Illustrated by Alejandra Viacava
  • ¿QuĆ© te Gusta? Illustrated by Sachiko Sawada
  • Una Fiesta de CumpleaƱos Illustrated by Kasandra
What I love about Language4kidz is that it's one your one-stop resource for raising your children to learn Spanish or learn English!   Here you'll find music, children's book, and enrichment activities. You know what really excites me about this program is that you don't have to be a teacher to use the program!  The lesson plans are flexible, and easy to use with activities to follow-through.

In my journey raising a bilingual child I have seen first hand how music has positively impacted my child's language learning.  Language4kidz has samples of  songs, and nursery rhymes  that you can listen to, and are part of the program.

For more information on Language4kidz visit their website, Facebook, or Pinterest page.
