Spanish Poetry for Kids: Poesía Alada

My first memories of poetry actually started with my mom when I was a kid. Back then Spanish poetry for kids didn't exist. In fact, my mom helped me write poems in a notebook; and to this day she still has that notebook! I know because I called her and asked. Ha!

I remember sitting down and writing poems in my notebook many times asking my mom for help with rhyming words.  Other times, she'd share a poem of her own inspiration or one that she loved. These memories although etched in my brain were somehow forgotten until I received the book Poesía Alada: Poesía y arte para volar (aff. link) by author Mariana Llanos.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for purposes of review. All opinions are my own.  Read my full disclosure here
Poesía Alada is the perfect book to introduce my 8 year old to Spanish poetry.  Author Mariana Llanos does a superb job in each of  the 25 poems that can be found in her book. Her poetry is literally taking a child by the hand through a magical world of written rhythmical compositions such as, Vientos en la playa, and my son's favorite Viento feroz.

Since I'm also raising my son to be bilingual  this poetry book is perfect to enhance his reading and vocabulary skills.  However, the best part is that I will be able to share a part of my childhood with him just as my mom did with me: a love for poetry!

This beautiful Spanish poetry book Poesía Alada was released on April 22nd.  To read her full press release click here. For those interested in the English version it will be available after April 30th at Purple Corn Press. You can learn more about Mariana and the wonderful work she does at  www.marianallanos.com
I highly recommend this book!  It's sure to please kids, and adults too!
